Dr. Linsk Appointment, B Vitamins

Hello, all!

So, we saw Dr. Linsk today. Always interesting! Today was no different! The heat was out in their office, so we kept our coats on the entire time and had a space heater to deal with (Ben was freaked out by it.) But, all in all it was a good appointment.

We mostly discussed Ben's crazy reaction to our previous attempts at B12 and B6 protocols. Always the same...we see improvement, then a few weeks in craziness (stimming, not sleeping, etc.) Dr. Linsk said this could be a "clue" that we are throwing off his metabolism of B vitamins. The B vitamins work together, and by increasing the dose of one, we may be throwing off his amounts of the others. So, he prescribed a B vitamin complex that is topical and contains a balance of all the B vitamins. In addition, he recommended another topical agent that will help with the absorbion with the B vitamins, among other things. He wants us to start that one first (don't know how to spell...more on that when it arrives). Only problem is that he said it'll make him stinky! HA! "Smell like a skunk" was his exact words! However, he said that the stinkiness seems to indicate that it is working...and will subside eventually. Also, he said that increasing his biotin intake (which he is already on) will help this. Should be interesting!

Also discussed was our never-ending battle with yeast/bacteria. We have Ben back on s. boulardii right now and it seems to be working, so we will continue. He told us to try to add in a probiotic again as well (we're going to try Mindlinx). Also, we need to send in a sample for an OAT urine test as it has been a while.

In addition to the above, we'll be trying Carnosine, Creatine and CoQ10, one at a time. I'm really excited about the Carnosine so we'll probably try that first. I have had several people tell me lately that it has worked wonders for their kids.

So, that's where we stand now. Hope to get the urine sample off Monday and start the new topicals late next week.

In other news, we've restarted the therapuetic listening again. He fought us on it a little in the beginning. Well, actually, he only fought me! He let Patty put it on him at school, but would freak when I tried to do it at home. To remedy that, Patty had me stay at school in the morning to put it on him and play. He did great with that! And, I have to say I really enjoyed starting my day that way! Also, she had me put it on him at the end of the day for the ride home from school. He fought this at first, but by the end of the week he was fine with it. I think it had more to do with changing the routine (I would come into the clinic to put it on him, and he is used to me waiting in the lobby at the end of the day...)

Well, I must go get the little guy ready for our last speech session at UT. We are sure going to miss our current student therapist. She's been great! I pray that we are able to continue at UT next semester with an equally wonderful studen, hopefully on Fridays again.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the season!

Love,
Julie
