Hello, all!
Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted! Haven't been on the computer much this past week.
Ben and I were sick last week...or maybe it was just really bad allergies, not sure. We were both miserable for a couple days, but are much better now, though still a little stuffy. We called Ben in sick Wednesday last week because he was so congested and woke up screaming and crying. He cried on and off for almost an hour. I kid you not, the minute I hung up the phone from calling CHIP to say he was not coming in, he was fine! Little stinker...maybe he just wanted a day of play with Daddy? :o) It's funny, because that was one of the best days we've had with him in a long time. He was extremely interactive, very little stimming and even initiated pretend play with the baby doll (he NEVER pretend plays!) Go figure...
We went to Steph's graduation Thursday and Ben was very well behaved! He sat on Jer's lap the whole time with just a couple potty breaks. He did, however, make Jeremy clap for every single graduate as they received their diploma! :o) After the ceremony, he was great through dinner even though we didn't even get to the restaurant until after his regular bedtime!
Friday we had a screening for summer camp at Rehab Dynamics. We plan to send Ben there two mornings per week for play-based therapy and fun in the sun! The therapist that did our screening had worked with Ben before CHIP. She was so pleased with his progress! Made me feel really good! :o)
Saturday we went to a cookout in celebration of our friends' adoption being finalized. Ben was again very good, and interacted a little here and there with the adults and kids. He mostly ran around with a toy lawn mower and played on the slide, but chased the other kids around a bit too. He did have a wipe-out on the gravel driveway and scraped up his knees. However, he recovered from that pretty quickly when comforted by Daddy. He was up and running again in no time!
Yesterday, we worked in the yard with Daddy and Grandma Nancy. Actually, I did what I could, but mostly chased Ben around while they did most of the work! It looks so good! If the weather cooperates, Jeremy is going to finish transplanting a few things and put mulch down, then it is pretty much finished! Just need to cut down one dead tree.
Finally, the insurance stuff. I learned (after much time on the phone) that St. V's (the hospital that CHIP is a part of) is now a preferred provider under our plan. And, ABA is a covered service for us. However, the services need to be pre-approved and provider has to be the one to obtain that approval. So, I've asked the office manager to call and see if it'll be approved and what our portion would be. PLEASE PRAY WE WILL GET APPROVAL AND THEY WILL COVER MUCH OF THE EXPENSE!!! It could be so helpful and will provide us with better options for Ben's care going forward!
We've also learned that the insurance may help a little with the OT and speech therapy portion of the CHIP program. It wouldn't be much because our therapy benefits aren't great, but any little bit helps! Also, because those services do not require pre-approval, we may be able to file for reimbursement for services already received. Pray, pray and pray some more!!
